One second a Staten Island teenager was walking down the street, the next second she was gone.
Alexa Longueira was walking down Victory Boulevard and getting ready to text-message when she fell into an open sewer manhole. Now the city is trying to figure out why the manhole was left open and unblocked.
Not sure which I would go with this. She was texting and obviously not paying attention, but there shouyld have been something blocking the man hole. What do you think?
I think it should be a wash
if someone isnt paying attention thats on them... we have to stop this relying of others to protect us from ourselves
I kind of torn on this. 1) She should of been looking around at her surroundings and where she walked instead of texting and walking at the same time. That's kind of common sense. 2) The workers should of probably put cones around it and some rope or such before they opened the hole and not left it open without that. Still if she was texting and not paying attention.. would she have still walked past the cones and still fell? Dunno. Of course this is sue happy USA and I'm sure they will get free buck off it. Glad she is okay. Could of been a hell of a lot worse. I'm surprised it was only scratches and bruises.
Pretty easy to set up if you were interested..get something to pull open the manhole cover, and then walk back and looking somewhere other than where you're walking, fall through the hole. (I'm not saying he did this, but it's possible.)
DUH!!!
Why is it the stupidest people get to sue for being stupid?
Whomever the judge may be that will hear this case, should instead of hearing her case, throw it out. Before every one is dismissed, the judge should lecture the teen to pay attention to where she's going. I avoid bumping into people because I'm paying attention to where I'm going, whereas the other person is not.
