First off, here is the deal. I chose to come back yesterday, before the whole Go Reporter/DNR incident. The truth is, had I waited a few more hours I would have had chosen to wait longer in coming back. The whole incident makes me sick. From the plagiarism itself to the overwhelming responses and people who seemed almost giddy to get rid of her. So where do we go from here? I said my piece and then had my "ethics" questioned. I feel had DNR been a liberal writer the article would not have been written in the first place and I will stand by that. Yes a punishment should been in order, but the extent of the article and some of the comments I read made me lose respect for some I had respected in the past.
The bottom line for me is this, I am not a journalist. I am a guy who chooses to express myself here on newsvine. Am I biased? Hell yeah, I am. But I doubt there are many people where who aren't biased in one way or another. There are things I stand behind that others would look down on. But that doesn't make anyone else better than me. There is a tendency here on newsvine that some writers feel they are either morally or intellectually better than others and have no qualms letting others know this. There is also no matter how much we deny it a gang mentality here. The left has a huge hold on newsvine right now. This is the "nature of the beast". I don't really think this is a bad thing, but it can be very intimidating to those of us who share a more conservative or moderate view. This is a big reason I feel people don't stick around here.
Before the hate is rained down on me from my liberal friends. This is not an attack on any one group. But I do feel it something that needs to be addressed. I also want to say no one person or group is better than the other here on newsvine. Because a person is conservative doesn't make them any less human than a liberal or vice versa. I am sick of the bullshit "I am better than you attitude because...." I see in almost every popular article and comment thread. We are all different we all have different reasons for feeling the way we do. It is no ones place to judge another. Yes, we can try to have an intelligent conversation and even try to make another understand our ideals. But it does no one any good to keep up with condescending "I am better that you attitude" we all have seen. Let's talk and try to learn from each other, not attack and back stab one another. Let's "get smarter here".
Here is my challenge to others. I think we all should step back, read a few articles and comments we have written. Try to put ourselves in another persons shoes, look for condescending and rude comments you have made and think how you would feel if the roles where reversed. Just an idea, but maybe you can learn something from this.
